Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about hiking and camping in Wadi Rum
What is the age range for hiking in Wadi Rum?
Our hiking programs are suitable for most ages with reasonable fitness levels. Children under 5 travel free, and we offer 30% discounts for children aged 5-11. The hiking difficulty ranges from medium to hard, with 3-8 hours of walking per day. We recommend consulting with us about your specific situation if you have young children or elderly participants.
What is included in the hiking prices?
The price includes: two experienced Bedouin guides (one walking with you, one driving the Jeep), Jeep transportation for luggage and supplies, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), unlimited water and tea, sleeping equipment (mattresses and blankets), and camp setup/breakdown. Basically, everything you need for your desert adventure is included.
What should I bring? How should I dress?
Bring comfortable hiking shoes, light breathable clothing for daytime, warm layers for cold nights, sunglasses, sun hat, sunscreen, personal toiletries, toilet paper and lighter, a small bag for waste, flashlight, and any personal medications. Optionally, bring your own sleeping bag or sheets. Leave large suitcases at Zeid's house or in your car - bring only a small daypack and night bag.
What facilities are available in the desert?
As part of our eco-tourism philosophy, there are no toilets or showers in the desert. We provide water for basic washing. You must bring toilet paper, a lighter to burn it, and a small bag for your waste. We follow 'leave no trace' principles to preserve the desert environment.
How do I pay for my trip?
Payment is cash only at the end of your stay. There are no ATMs in Wadi Rum Village, so please bring sufficient Jordanian Dinars (JOD) with you. In some cases, bank transfer to a French account may be possible - contact us in advance to arrange this.
Can I sleep under the stars in winter?
Yes! We encourage outdoor sleeping year-round for the incredible stargazing experience. However, in winter when temperatures drop significantly, we provide individual tents or a traditional Bedouin tent to keep you warm. You can still enjoy the stars and choose to sleep inside if it gets too cold.
Can I bring children?
Yes, children are welcome! Children under 5 travel free, and children aged 5-11 receive a 30% discount. However, please consider the hiking difficulty and duration when bringing young children. Contact us to discuss the best program for your family.
Is there an age limit for bivouac camping?
There is no strict age limit for our camping experiences. We've hosted guests from young children to seniors. The key is having a reasonable fitness level for the hiking portions and being comfortable with basic outdoor camping conditions. Contact us to discuss your specific situation.
Where can I park my rental car?
You can park your rental car safely at Zeid's house in Rum Village. This is also our meeting point. Your car will be secure while you're in the desert. We recommend leaving large suitcases in your car and bringing only essential items for your desert adventure.
What if I'm traveling alone?
Solo travelers are welcome! If you're alone or with just one other person, we may ask if you'd like to join a small group of 2-3 people to make the experience more affordable. If you prefer a completely private tour, a small supplement will be added to the price.
Do you offer vegetarian or special diet options?
Yes! While our traditional meals are mostly meat-based, we can accommodate vegetarian and other special dietary requirements. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions when you arrive, and our guides will prepare suitable meals for you.
What's the best time to visit Wadi Rum?
Wadi Rum can be visited year-round, but the most popular season is October through April when temperatures are more moderate. Summer (June-August) can be extremely hot during the day. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) offer the most comfortable temperatures for hiking.
